Crop rotation planning

Case Study

Every bed has a four-year plan

No bed grows the same family twice in a row. Roots follow greens, grains follow roots, and every fourth year the bed rests under clover and rye.

The plan lives on one wall chart in the barn, updated each winter from soil tests and the crew's own field notes. New growers learn the whole farm from that chart in a single afternoon.

How the rotation holds together

The Map

Each winter we chart every bed's family history and pair hungry crops with the ground that just rested.

The Rotate

Planting crews work from the chart, so brassicas never chase brassicas and pest cycles get broken.

The Rest

Rest-year beds carry flowering cover that feeds pollinators and returns organic matter to the soil.
